Estimate from John Hart obtained in 2009. Details: 5447 km2 were surveyed using 90 one-kilometre line transects. Effort was 161 km There were 122 dungpiles Encounter rate was 0.75 (95% cl 0.5-1.14) ESW was 2.18m Dung density was 173 (95% cl 111-270) Elephant density was 0.10 (95% cl 0.064-0.16) giving 551 elephants (95% c.l. 353-860) if 19 and 90 are used as multipliers for deposition & decay rate, respectively
