The 2011 Wonga-Wongue Reserve estimated elephants using the dung count method. Only 9 transects were walked but CV was 26%. Elephant population was (after E dung had been removed) 1039 (95% c.l. 601-1797). The dung decay rate was not done on site but it was taken to be 81.82 days using 14 reviewed studies.

2015-10-06 — The reason for change was originally entered as NP, but in fact this estimate replaces (in part) the 1988 estimate for "Rest of Gabon forest range", and so the reason for change has been now corrected to NG. --JB.
