This dataset comprises aerial sample count data from a survey conducted in the Murchison Falls Protected Area, Uganda, in May 2014. Two aircraft were used in these surveys a Cessna 182 (N22044) and a Cessna 206 (N242TC). The survey estimated an elephant population of 1 352 within the 6 268 km² survey area. The 2014 estimate is lower (by 300) than the estimate derived during a similar survey in 2012 however in consideration of 95% confidence intervals there is no significant difference. Only one old elephant carcass was observed in these surveys indicating that poaching pressure is low.
