This submission details an aerial total count survey of the Liwonde National Park (including the Chilole Corridor), Malawi, conducted in October 2014.
The 675 km² area was surveyed using a Bathawk Type X 341 aircraft, with 2 767 km of transects flown at an average search rate of approximately 27 km² per hour.
The population of elephants was estimated at 777, an increase over the 678 estimated using a similar survey design in 2012, although the author notes that the park is experiencing a high degree of poaching.
