Maps of elephant presence in Maiko and the rest of the Maiko-Kahuzi Biega landscape have been made by Andrew Plumtre on the basis of observations by researchers and guards. This entry is for Maiko and is merely a guess by Maisels based on the distribution of the signs on the map. Probably the estimate should just say "Elephants still present" rather than a number. The animals are in the north of the park and just outside.
