This summary report details three dung count surveys conducted in the Tridom landscape (Cameroon) in Jan - Oct 2015. Elephant population estimates for the strata were as follows:
For Parc National de Nki, 565 elephants (95% c.i. 355 - 898; CV 23.89%) in an area of 3094 km².
Dung density was 317.03 (95% c.i. 204.06 - 492.54; CV 22.62%).
The dung encounter rate was 1.318 (95% c.i. 1.040 – 1.670).
For Parc National de Boumba Bek, 143 elephants (95% c.i. 85 - 242; CV 26.72%) in an area of 2499 km².
Dung density was 99.7 (95% c.i. 60.27 - 164.94; CV 25.6%).
The dung encounter rate was 0.597 (95% c.i. 0.375 – 0.951).
For concessions au nord du PN Boumba Bek (UFAs 10-021, 10-022, 10-023, 10-030 et 10-029), 185 elephants (95% c.i. 118 - 291; CV 23.18%) in an area of 3678 km².
Dung density was 87.52 (95% c.i. 57.04 - 134.3; CV 21.88%).
The dung encounter rate was 0.520 (95% c.i. 0.352 – 0.768).
For Complexe Ngoyla Mintom (UFAs 10-033, 10-035, 10-036, 09-002, 09-001, FC Noyla, FC Mintom, RFaune Ngoyla), 395 elephants (95% c.i. 243 - 642; CV 24.91%) in an area of 6539 km².
Dung density was 104.82 (95% c.i. 65.9 - 166.73; CV 23.71%).
The dung encounter rate was 0.759 (95% c.i. 0.487 – 1.185).
For UFA 10-015, 198 elephants (95% c.i. 108 - 366; CV 31.11%) in an area of 1308 km².
Dung density was 263.37 (95% c.i. 145.07 - 478.14; CV 30.15%).
The dung encounter rate was 1.800 (95% c.i. 1.004 – 3.229).
For UFAs 10-027 & 10-028 (UFA 10-027a et 10-027b), 82 elephants (95% c.i. 47 - 143; CV 28.15%) in an area of 1210 km².
Dung density was 118.05 (95% c.i. 69.18 - 201.45; CV 27.09%).
The dung encounter rate was 0.605 (95% c.i. 0.372 – 0.983).
For UFAs 10-032 & 10-067, 22 elephants (95% c.i. 8 - 56; CV 49.2%) in an area of 1493 km².
Dung density was 25.3 (95% c.i. 9.91 - 64.59; CV 48.6%).
The dung encounter rate was 0.328 (95% c.i. 0.129 – 0.836).
